Eglin Air Force Base, Fla.----Wingate University was an unexpected surprise for me over a decade ago. I had never even heard of the town of Wingate, North Carolina, let alone Wingate University. I stumbled upon it through a family friend while I was down looking at UNC Greensboro, Elon University and Greensboro College.
